We all here it from time to time and it has a totally different meaning for each of us.
Today might be your lemonade day. So what do you do when someone you love honestly thinks that they are helping you and do not even realize that their words cut so deeply you are bleeding to death inside. They do not realize that what works for them in their life would never work for you. You are totally different people and God made it that way because life would not be worth living if we all were exactly who other people thought we should be.
Why are we so judgmental of others, what purpose does it serve? Who really knows the answer to that question. Whether you are an Atheist, Christian, or Agnostic, we have at some point or another judged others along our way in life. I am as guilty as the next person, and hate it when I find myself enthralled in this behavior with others.
It is not my place to judge and as a Christian I know that the Bible clearly states in Matthew 7:1-5 "Judge not, that ye be not judged."
So then why do we do it. I have different views on why we judge, but I believe part of it is human nature and part of it is plain ignorance. I am sure there are many other reasons unbeknownst to each of us as to why we are so quick to judge others.
Let's start with a common occurrence in society today. While making a quick trip to town we run across a number of drivers whom we feel should probably not be driving for one reason or the other. Is it because they pulled out in front of us, stopped short in front of us, didn't use their turn signal, went to slow, or are in our way because of we didn't leave home early enough to allow for traffic to get to our destination.
So we judge the other drivers using words, actions, thoughts in our mind and sometimes through unsafe movements because they wouldn't get out of the passing lane. Speaking of the passing lane, isn't that what judging does, it causes us to Pass judgement on someone we don't even know most of the time.
So let's look at it from a different perspective next time we feel the need to judge others, which I am as guilty of as the next person. Let's think about what may be going on in their life. They might be short and rude because they are dealing with a lot of anxiety in their life which we can't be privy to. Or, maybe they just lost a loved one and are dealing with a situation they honestly never had to think about before that moment. Maybe they are driving slow because they don't have anyone in their life to help them run errands and they know they shouldn't be driving but have no choice since they need to eat and get to their Dr.'s appointments.
Maybe just maybe we can realize that at many different times in our life we were the one someone else was judging. What have we done that would cause others to give up their precious time to judge us and make us the topic of conversation. Well we all will have different answers for that and it takes a lot of discipline to avoid judging others altogether so in the meantime just try to put yourself in their shoes.
Instead of judging others lets reach out to them and be the bigger person. They have their own struggles and sometimes just need an encouraging word. So if you find yourself in a place of judgement remember no matter how difficult it is best if we follow God's instructions.
