Grandparents

We didn't move the grass when I grew up.
Never ever had a single blade to cut.
We lived on a gravel road back in the woods.
We could misbehave but mostly we were good.

We never had leftovers on our plate.
We were thankful for the food and bread we ate.
We went fishing for Sunday dinner on Saturday night.
After Sunday dinner we always got to play outside.

Grandma was up at the crack of dawn and out the door.
To the hen houses for eggs and more.
Never ever did you hear her complain.
When it came to family she was as strong as they came.

Granddaddy worked tobacco as the sunrose all the day long.
It paid the bills as time moved on.
While he took care of business day to day.
Taking care of his family was his priority I'd say.

Grandma and Granddaddy they had backbone.
Never once in their life did they take out a loan.
They were old school peope would say.
But they were my Grandparenst and I like it that way.
